Best Dal Makhani in Winnipeg

5-star guest reviews on TripAdvisor & Yelp

Dal makhani is slow food. Whole black lentils and kidney beans simmer for hours until they turn silky, then finish in a tomato-butter gravy with garam masala and a swirl of cream. It is the mildest, most comforting curry on our vegetarian menu and the one Winnipeg regulars order alongside everything else.

About Our Dal Makhani

Every Indian kitchen has a dal, and dal makhani is the celebratory one. The lentils cannot be rushed — the long, low simmer is what breaks them down into that thick, glossy texture instead of a thin soup.

We finish ours the traditional way, with butter, cream and garam masala stirred through at the end and a little more butter on top. The result is mild, faintly smoky and deeply savoury. It is a favourite with children and with anyone who wants a vegetarian main that still feels indulgent, and it reheats beautifully, which makes it one of our most requested catering trays in Winnipeg.
